Description

JOIN US!

Join us for the 2021 Women In Defense Fall Webinar Series! With three webinars dedicated to professional development and understanding in the areas of Program Management, Science and Engineering, and Test and Evaluation, these webinars will convene members of the military, defense industry, government, and academia as we continue to work to create a more diverse workforce and strengthen American and allied national security.

WHY ATTEND?

By breaking up our content into three days dedicated to a specific topic, this year's fall webinar series allows attendees to learn about one of America’s most ambitious space programs, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Using the JWST, experts who’ve worked on the program will talk about challenges and opportunities, providing attendees with information and perspectives to help shape decisions in their professional lives. Here is a sampling of what to expect from each webinar:

Webinar 1 | Thursday, September 9, 2021
Success in Complex Program Management
Using the James Webb Space Telescope as a case study, this panel will discuss challenges associated with a large, complicated, technologically advanced program and how program managers from different organizations collaborated and communicated to solve them.

Webinar 2 | Thursday, September 16, 2021
Science and Engineering
Moderated by Dr. Bhavya Lal, Senior Advisor to the NASA Administrator for Budget and Finance, this panel will focus on the intersection and tension between science and engineering when designing and building a complex system. The panel will also explore the discoveries and knowledge JWST will provide to scientists, engineers and interested observers.

Webinar 3 | Thursday, September 23, 2021
Planning for Success: Supply Chain & Test and Evaluation
The final panel will explore the supply chain challenges discovered in building an advanced telescope that will operate on the far side of the moon, as well as the specific challenges of creating rigorous testing for systems operation “off earth/on orbit.”

.
Each webinar will take place from 4:00 - 6:00 pm EDT and begin with a 30-minute small group networking session. See our draft agenda
here. Please note that webinars will NOT be recorded.

Maximize Your Engagement with Industry Companies by Submitting Your Resume Today!
Participating organizations actively promote, support, and advocate for women in the defense industry and actively recruit talented women for employment opportunities. Attendees are encouraged to
upload their current resumes here, which will be shared with sponsoring organizations to maximize networking. WID will provide students who upload their resumes with a code for a very discounted registration.

WHO ATTENDS?

In previous years, we have welcomed professionals working in industry, government, and academia as well as students, young professionals, and members of the media to our annual National Conference and 2020's virtual Leadership Symposium. As always, Women In Defense extends a warm welcome—to our organization and our events—to women and men of all backgrounds and ranks whose primary professional activities or interests relate to the national security of the United States and its allies.
