Bio

Augusta Binns-Berkey is senior advisor to the Chief of Space Operations, a role she has held since August 2020 in support of the first and second Space Force service chiefs. In this role, she provides direct counsel on policy, strategy, organization, and initiatives; internal and external engagement and communication; issues related to the broader Department of Defense, Capitol Hill, and the interagency; and other matters as required. Previously, she served as a professional staff member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, responsible for policy, programs, and budgets related to nuclear weapons, missile defense, and space. Before the Senate, she conducted research and wargames on the future nuclear security environment within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. She has also spent time in the State Department’s Office of Security Assistance, and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Yale and a master’s degree in strategic studies and international economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
